What is Hepatitis C?
Hepatitis C is a viral infection that causes liver inflammation, sometimes leading to serious liver damage. The hepatitis C virus (HCV) spreads through contaminated blood. Hepatitis C infection can lead to liver cancer. Screening for Hepatitis C and treatment upon detection can prevent this cancer if liver scarring has not occurred.
Who Should get Screened?
Adults born from 1945 through 1965 should be tested once (without prior ascertainment of HCV risk factors).
